This just in and SO thrilled to have found it! Sterling Silver Hobé brooch done in a floral bouquet motif. WOW, such a work of art! On the larger side measuring about 3 1/2" long x 2" wide, this heavy vintage sterling brooch is a real designer beauty! Made in the 40's, it depicts a single rose in bloom surrounded by detailed, serrated-edge leaves and wrapped, freshly-cut stems which are gathered with a flower topped ribbon. A wonderful brooch that can be worn on a coat or suit lapel. This is an absolutely gorgeous vintage, top quality brooch made, although unsigned, by the illustrious designer Hobe'. It is signature Hobe' style in sterling silver, but there are no markings to support this. My expertise and knowledge of vintage Hobe' jewelry give me the confidence to call this authentic. Hand wrought workmanship is beautifully detailed in the many layers which make it very 3-dimensional. Hobe' of this vintage and quality is very difficult to find today. A very special and rare treasure, indeed!! The clasp works great. This fabulous, handmade brooch has some of its original patina and you will find it in excellent vintage condition with very slight wear commensurate with age.About Hobé (United States, 1927 – 1995): Jacques Hobé, who started the family business in 1887 Paris was regarded as a master goldsmith; recognized throughout Europe as a producer of fine jewelry. Hobé jewelry is legendary and known for its elegant designs and superior craftsmanship. Hobé jewelry advertisements claimed that their jewelry was handmade using platinum, gold or sterling metal. The company began selling their pieces in up-scale department stores and boutiques in the 1930s. By the 1940s, stage and film actresses such as Carole Lombard, Bette Davis and Ava Gardner were wearing Hobé jewelry both on and off stage. One of the 1940s slogans in a Hobé advertisement was "Jewels of Legendary Splendor." It was said to be the jewelry of choice in Hollywood for it was favored by many producers and movie stars, and was designed to compliment the costumes of actresses in movies. The jewelry was also used by fashion models in advertising promotions. From the beginning, Hobé’s designs were often inspired by historical European jewelry, and their production was always top quality. The company used many of the same techniques and craftsmanship standards as those employed in the making of fine jewelry. Sterling silver, 14K gold plating, semi-precious stones and high-quality pastes were typically used by artisans who crafted each piece by hand. Because of the quality of the construction, most Hobé pieces on the market are in very good condition today. The early sterling silver pieces are much in demand and command very high prices. A good piece of Hobé jewelry is a wise investment.Like this item and looking for more like it? Are you a dealer and want to buy in quantity?
